What is Peppol?

A network for exchanging invoices as structured data between businesses and governments, instead of a PDF in an e-mail. Your invoice arrives straight in your client's accounting software, and theirs arrives in yours. Every participant is reached through an access point; Billr is connected to one, so you do not have to be.

Do I have to use it?

In Belgium, yes for invoices between VAT-registered businesses since 1 January 2026. In the Netherlands, the Nordics, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore it is the standard for invoicing the government and increasingly for businesses. Germany and France are phasing e-invoicing in and accept Peppol as a channel. Invoices to private individuals, clubs and associations are not affected anywhere.

What do I have to do?

Three things. Switch Peppol on under Settings; Billr registers your business on the network using the details already on your invoices. Confirm your identity once, through a link, because the network requires that somebody who may act for the business does so. Then press Send via Peppol on an invoice whose client is registered. Billr checks that for you.

What if my client is not on Peppol?

Then the invoice goes by e-mail with the PDF, exactly as before, and Billr tells you so. Nothing is sent twice and nothing is lost. When they register later, the next invoice finds them.

Can I receive invoices through it?

Yes. Switch on receiving and suppliers who send e-invoices reach you on your Peppol address. Each one lands under Incoming bills with the amounts, the dates and the PDF the supplier attached, ready to be marked paid. If another tool already receives for you, keep receiving there and use Billr for sending only.

What does it cost?

It is part of the subscription. Billr includes 20 documents a month and Billr Plus 60, sent and received together, which covers most small businesses with room to spare. Each document beyond that costs €0.25, charged once the month after; the terms have the detail. You can try everything free for 30 days without a card.

Which invoices can go through Peppol?

Invoices between businesses, with your VAT or registration number and your client's. An invoice with tax-inclusive prices is a consumer document and stays on e-mail. A document-level discount is not supported yet; put the discount on a line.
